We are so honored to be the first Global Earth Exchange wedding! Toby and I are both environmentalists and work in environmental fields, so it only seemed fitting to celebrate the earth and our place in it for our wedding. The family farm must have felt the love we were sending its way, because it was fully alive and beautiful for our special day. In lieu of a unity candle or other symbolic ritual, my new husband and I planted a tree together with earth from the places in which we each grew up. My soil came from the woods beside my childhood house on the farm. We had all live plants for our centerpieces, and locally grown flowers for our bouquets. We had a predominantly vegetarian and vegan meal, and no red meat whatsoever. Many of our guests camped out on the farm, and my husband and I slept under the screen top of our tent and stared up at the stars and the tree branches. It was a glorious event filled with love for our place, love for the earth, love for the farm, love for our friends and family, and of course, so much love for one another.
